why don't we trade Carl Hagelin, John Moore, Danny Kristo, and a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Eric Staal?
somebody on twitter^^^ - jimbro83
I am certainly no expert on it, but people should have to figure out how much money the Rangers have, and how much it would cost to bring said player in before they are allowed to post anything.
I think its Tom trolling you on twitter. |

I think we need to add Tanner Glass and Ryan Borque to make that deal work.

I would sweeten the deal and add Chris Borque, this way they don't lose a set of brothers |

The interesting thing is this. Eric Staal has a cap hit of $8.25 million for this year and next. That cap hit is absurd, but the real money that Carolina has to pay him for this year and next is actually higher, $9.25 million and $9.5 million respectively.
The Canes are struggling financially, and have been for years. I know that the new CBA allows a team to retain salary/cap hit in a trade, but I don't know whether a team could retain cap hit without retaining the actual salary (i.e., whether the Canes could retain 1/2 of Staal's $8.25 million cap hit, with the acquiring team paying the entire $9.25 million actual salary next year).
Nobody is going to acquire Eric Staal without the Canes retaining salary, because any team likely interested wouldn't have anywhere near the space. But, if the Canes were willing to retain a substantial portion of that hit? Well, then it makes things more interesting.

That was my point, forget the players that person offered in the trade. The money is even more ridiculous. |

if Carolina eats some of his salary, then you're right. it gets a hell of a lot more interesting. but depending on how much, the rangers would not get away with centering the deal around somebody like hagelin. realistically, they'd have to center the deal around somebody like kreider. |

No matter what, it is still a guy that becomes an UFA after next year, so I can't see a lot of teams offering the sun, the stars and sky for him.

Rangers should target a guy like Glencross for their 3rd line. Cap hit of 2.5 (at deadline time that will be very little money.) Probably wouldn't cost more then a B level propect and 2nd or 3rd round pick. |

Think max they can eat is 50%, so if Carolina would do that, the suitors may be out the door. |

Probably, Glencross is a bit banged up but has some offensive skill and wouldn't be a bad fit. Think center might the Rangers' first focus. |

I think Flames will definitely be buyers not sellers. That team wants playoffs badly. |

Yup, no way Glencross goes unless its a huge overpayment. He is considered one of the vet leaders on that team. |

It's not. I hate the idea of Eric Staal almost as much as I hate Joe Thornton. |

Yes a power forward or 6th dman could be nice to improve the team, but this team feeds off of speed and possession. Winning faceoffs, because it will feed into our game, will make us a harder team to play as things tighten up as the season and playoffs go on. |

This stuff isnt important. Jan strategically dropped this blog to tune down the Lundqvist denying the allstar game rumors. I know how you guys operate. |

I still think we should see what it would take to get anisimov..i dont know why people were so opposed to it on the last board, hes exactly what we need on that third line |

i would be into that but i doubt columbus will ever trade with us again after we fleeced them twice... also does anyone know if Jarret Stoll is available? i know the kings are possibly trying to move richards but if unable to do so they still need to shed cap... I would love to get Stoll...
Also I really like Hayes at center. playing a guy that can take the draws and then move to wing with Hayes is preffered. if Hayes was good at faceoffs - then no need for another player... |

Stoll would be good, hes also right handed i believe which would make him even more valuable. Good i wish there was a way too trade with Washington mid season without it possibly coming back to bite us late april. Brooks laich would be awesome and needs a change of scenery.
And the problem with richards is on this team hes probably a 4c, which doesnt help much at all even if they retain salary |

Clearly, most important thing in the world. By the way, disagree with Ek here. Lundqvist wasn't chosen initially and likely made plans. Maybe he made it known he wouldn't go but this is the first he has had a real mid-season break, excluding the lockout, since 2008.

yea I would be for getting Laich as well, but i doubt the rangers trade with anyone that we could end up playing in playoffs unless it is a must... is anyone else getting nervous on the Zucc front? if he isnt signed soon, he is definitely gone. what the cally situation showed me is that Sather is not afraid to trade anyone... |
